Stephen Newman, MD

Independent Board Member

Stephen Newman currently serves as chairman of the board of CentraForce, LLC, a privately-held healthcare data analytics company. Dr. Newman also serves as chairman of the JDRF Research Committee and recently completed a term as vice chairman of the International Board of Directors of JDRF. He recently completed a five-year term as a member of the Labor, Education and Healthcare Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, and also served as a member of the boards of directors of Optimer Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Cadence Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Hansen Medical, Inc. Newman retired as vice chairman from Tenet Healthcare Corporation (NYSE: THC) in June 2012. Previously, he held executive positions at Columbia/HCA, Inc., and served as senior vice president and chief medical officer of Touro Infirmary in New Orleans. Newman was an associate professor of pediatrics and medicine at Wright State University School of Medicine, and director of gastroenterology and nutrition support at Children’s Medical Center in Dayton, Ohio. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University, a master’s degree in business from Tulane University, and a medical doctorate from the University of Tennessee. Newman also completed the Advanced Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
